Prudence Crandall
(1803–1890)
Prudence Crandall was a teacher and reformer, born in Rhode Island. She was raised a Quaker but left the society because they were not moving fast enough on the issues of equality and abolition. In 1831 she established a private school which allowed African American girls to attend.
